I have never bought an Asian inspired set - well, maybe Eastern blooms counts - but I could not resist Stampin' Up's Asian Artistry set. Here's a sneak peek for you! The images include a bird perched on bamboo, delicate rose blossoms, a dragonfly, tall grasses and the sentiment, "wherever you go, go with all your heart."
Of course, I couldn't wait to use this set and the Featured Stamper Challenge gave me the perfect opportunity! This card by Kisa Peters inspired me. I love the clean simplicity of her design and her layout, which I turned for my card.
I used my new In Color markers to color the bird in Melon Mamba. This color really zings with black, white and Sahara Sand used as the backdrop. Thinking of the embellishment to use posed a problem because I wanted SHINY black with silver. I stamped the leaves from the flower stamp on black card stock and embossed it in silver. I punched it out and used it to top the shiny black Jumbo Grommet - voila! How do you like it? Here's a closeup for you.
Supplies~
Stamps: Asian Artistry
Paper: whisper white, melon mamba, sahara sand, basic black
Ink: basic black, versamark
Accessories: silver embossing powder, 3/4" circle punch, filigree brads, rhinestone brads from the Pretties' Kit
Nice work. I like this color combo (I must be the only demo in North America without her In Color bundle!)
I love the embellishments you have here, they do help tie it all up. You were right to want shiny black, very asian....

Lovely! Your black and silver embellishment is totally fabulous, and I never would have thought to use sahara sand. It works great!
I avoided Asian sets for a long time (I'm not Asian, don't read Asian characters, and it felt disrespectful to me to use them for artistic purposes...silly, I know!). I now have a few and really enjoy using them.

My box shipped today! I love this set - that bird is so sweet and the sentiment would be great for graduation goes, and I can also see it being used for retirement cards or for a co-worker accepting a job elsewhere.

Love the embossed part with the brads! So pretty! Here's a random question---got any good ideas for Father's Day card?? Something manly? I'm making one for a friend and could use some help! Thanks. :o)

Hi Kim,
I have some favorite sets I use for masculine cards - Lovely as a Tree, Noble Deer, and now Autumn Days. If you don't have a masculine set, you could try a shaped card - such as a man's vest or shirt and tie. Or,you could highlight the sentiment (Happy Father's Day)or spell the name Dad. Hope this gets you started on some ideas! Hopefully I can provide a sample soon.
