Stamp Review Crew Lovely as a Tree and Blendabilities.
HI, I'm home!
I left the hotel at 4 AM in Salt Lake City and got back home around 5 PM. Can't wait to sleep on my OWN pillow! My husband and daughter made grilled chicken and pasta salad and I can hardly think of eating. Does anyone else think after a week of eating out that just a bowl of cereal is grand?!?! With a banana for dessert. Add a long winter's nap and you get the idea.....
Well, you didn't come to hear about food. I KNOW you will want to hear all about #InspireCreateShare2014. I will be telling you some of my thoughts and stories about convention in the days to come.
But in case you haven't yet heard the exciting news, The Stamp Review Crew was one of the groups chosen to create a display board at convention. In keeping with our desire to take one or two sets and inspire with new ideas for how to use them, one of our sets was Lovely As A Tree.
Now I have to say that I was completely at a loss for a new look with this set, even though it is one of our most well loved sets in the annual catalog.
And then I thought of Blendabilities. And using the Blendabilities alcohol markers in a new way! Here's my card.
Can you figure out how I used the Blendabilities differently? On the leaf image that is cut out, I used them to color and shade directly on Whisper White card stock.
The large tree was stamped with Versamark ink, embossed with white powder, then colored and shaded using Blendabilities on the glossy white surface of the embossing. The only trick to this technique is to use a dark card stock as the background. Blackberry Bliss works perfectly with this. Click the tree to see the details in the closeup.
The Blendabilities colors that I used are Daffodil Delight (light) and the light and medium shades of Old Olive. My next post will include a quick video tutorial of this technique, so please stop back to see it!

Wow that really pops! Beautiful job. I must confess I laughed at your cereal comment. I am the queen of cereal for meals. ROFL and I agree it's perfect!

Thank you, Janet! You and I have chatted occasionally ever since the early days of my blog. Thanks so much for your kind comment about the card. As for the video, comments like this motivate me to get started! I loved hearing from you.

Cindy, this is a stunning, outstanding card! I LOVE this set and I hope it never goes away. You have taken it to the next level with your creative genius! I must try this. I would never have thought to emboss with white, then color with Blendabilities. Just in time for a fall card I wanted to make for my August stamp camp! I'll be sure to give everyone your blog info so they know where I got it from. Love it! Thanks!

This card is just amazing, and I'm sure the people looking at the board at Convention were stumped as to how you did it!! Your bowl of cereal sounds great! I've been grazing today - just had a banana a little while ago. The wonders of having a kitchen again, even if we have to clean it up!

Thanks so much for your comments Susan!
I was thinking that very same thing about my kitchen just a bit ago.
Thanks so much for writing!

This card positively captivated me when I first saw it on the board. Really amazing IRL. Glad to know this technique worked out so beautifully! (BTW, I had to take an extended nap when I got home. So nice to finally meet!)

What a great way to use the Blendabilities! Your card is gorgeous and I love the addition of the striped paper. It's and interesting contrast to the rest of the card.
